Appearance: Tod is a young man of Germanic descent. He has blond hair which is of medium length and brown eyes. He is tall and rather lean for his height giving him a somewhat androgynous appearance from far away. His skin is pale but not so pale as to look unhealthy.
He is almost always clean shaven and works hard to never appear unkempt. His fashion sense is somewhat odd. His wardrobe consists mostly of flowing robes and semi-formal slacks primarily in shades of blue, black, and white. His clothes are typically form fitting and he rather despises wearing anything that hangs too loosely on him. Tod also likes to adorn himself with jewelry and typically can be found wearing a few silver rings, a gaudy gem broach (when he's allowed to have it), and a diamond stud in his right ear.
Personality: Most of the time Tod is cocky, aloof, and border-line egotistical. While he doesn't necessarily think of himself as better than any of the others, he certainly doesn't consider himself to be one of them. Because of Tod's delusions, he believes he has some sort of ownership rights over everyone else in the world. He has a tendency to stalk those whom he is interested in and, once he sets his sights on his target, he relentlessly pursues them. He is very calculating and rarely waltzes into a situation without a game plan in mind. Despite this, Tod is capable of tender feelings which he tries to hide. He rarely opens himself up to anyone because he loathes being rejected.
When interacting with others, Tod is very versatile. He likes to take advantage of those who are weaker (in his mind) than himself by playing on their fears. He can easily adapt himself into someone's best friend all the while meaning to double cross or in some way use them. With those whom are not weaker nor stronger than himself, Tod tries to establish dominance in the relationship by getting the upper hand. Making the other person uncomfortable, playing on their fears, or gaining some hidden knowledge of them are all common methods Tod uses to gain an edge in a relationship. But, despite Tod's normally cool and collected self, Tod is somewhat easily shaken when someone stronger than himself confronts him. If he feels he is loosing the advantage in a situation, he will quickly absent himself by walking (or running!) away as quickly as he can so he can rethink his strategy. Tod also avoids physical confrontations like the plague and would rather let someone else do the fighting for him.
Diagnosis: Psychosis is defined as "a mental disorder characterized by symptoms, such as delusions or hallucinations, that indicate impaired contact with reality." This disorder fits Tod well because he has completely lost touch with reality. In the musical Elisabeth, Tod is truly dearth himself, but for the purpose of Malaise canon, he merely believes himself to be a personification of death itself. His delusions, however, do not stop him from functioning in everyday life. He has created a reality in his mind that is separate but parallel to reality for normal people. He has also come up with a moral code in his reality that differs from the morals most people would share. This makes him dangerous because his behaviors, which are governed by his morals, could be harmful to those around him. In the musical, Tod stalks the main character, shows no regard for people's personal boundaries, manipulates those who are weaker than himself, and eventually arranges a murder. He is able to do all of these things without any regret because, in his mind, they are all justifiable actions.
